ADHD Evaluations: What to Expect
An ADHD evaluation is a comprehensive clinical assessment used to determine whether an individual meets diagnostic criteria for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Evaluations are conducted by licensed mental health professionals and are designed to understand symptoms, functioning, and overall mental health.
What an ADHD Evaluation Includes
A thorough ADHD evaluation typically involves:
Clinical interview: A detailed discussion of current symptoms, concerns, and how attention, focus, impulsivity, or hyperactivity affect daily life.
Medical and mental health history: Review of past diagnoses, treatments, medications, and relevant medical conditions.
Developmental and educational history: Assessment of childhood symptoms, academic experiences, and behavioral patterns over time.
Standardized screening tools: Use of validated questionnaires and rating scales to assess ADHD symptoms and severity.
Assessment of co-occurring conditions: Evaluation for anxiety, depression, learning disorders, sleep issues, or other conditions that may overlap with or mimic ADHD symptoms.
Functional impact review: Discussion of how symptoms affect work, school, relationships, and daily responsibilities.
Telepsychiatry ADHD Evaluations
ADHD evaluations can often be completed through secure, HIPAA-compliant telepsychiatry appointments. Virtual assessments allow individuals to receive professional ADHD evaluation and care from the comfort of their home, while maintaining the same clinical standards used in in-person settings.
Diagnosis and Next Steps
If ADHD is diagnosed, providers work collaboratively with patients to develop an individualized treatment plan. This may include education, behavioral strategies, therapy referrals, and medication management when clinically appropriate. If ADHD is not diagnosed, providers may recommend further evaluation or alternative treatment options based on identified needs.
Important Considerations
ADHD evaluations are individualized and may require more than one appointment.
A diagnosis is based on clinical judgment and established diagnostic criteria.
Not all individuals are appropriate candidates for medication, and prescriptions are not guaranteed.
Telepsychiatry ADHD evaluations are available only to individuals located in states where the provider is licensed.
QbCheck® Testing for ADHD
QbCheck® is an optional computerized assessment that may be used as part of a comprehensive ADHD evaluation at Wellness Alaska. The test measures attention, impulsivity, and activity levels and provides objective data to support clinical assessment.
QbCheck® does not diagnose ADHD on its own and does not replace a full psychiatric evaluation. Your provider will determine whether QbCheck® testing is appropriate based on your individual needs.
QbCheck® testing may be completed remotely through secure telepsychiatry.
QbCheck® Testing Fee (Self-Pay): $125
Remote QbCheck® testing is not covered by insurance.
